The Cold Reality of Buying Super Bowl Tickets

We get inquiries all the time from people about the best way to go about buying Super Bowl tickets. As the NFL itself says, “The demand for tickets to the Super Bowl greatly exceeds the supply. The majority of tickets are allotted to the two participating teams, and to a lesser extent through each of the other NFL teams. Remaining tickets for the general public are made available through a random drawing.”

Basically this means that the two teams attending the Super Bowl get tickets to allot to their fans as they want (meaning just a couple of weeks before the Super Bowl itself), and that there are some random drawings for fans, all equating for a very small chance for anybody to get a Super Bowl ticket from the primary source…either the NFL or from their team. The great majority of us have to buy Super Bowl tickets either from re-sellers or via one of the many secondary markets, meaning somebody else already has a Super Bowl ticket, and you buy it from them via an online exchange platform. We will shortly be reviewing these different sources to buy Super Bowl tickets and will give a few recommendations of the best sources to buy your 2012 and 2013 Super Bowl tickets from.

Madonna to Play 2012 Super Bowl

It’s just been announced that Madonna will be the featured halftime performer at the 2012 Super Bowl. The 53 year old queen of pop is not terribly relevant in contemporary cultural terms, but for those who grew up in the 80s and 90s she certainly has a lot of cultural significance. This follows the trend in recent years of the Super Bowl halftime selection committee picking music icons of different eras rather than whoever is hot at that particular moment (I’m looking at you Justin Bieber). We’ve seen this trend with halftime performances in recent Super Bowls by The Who, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, Prince, and Paul McCartney, all icons of their eras. Now we have Madonna for Super Bowl XLVI going down in Indianapolis on February 5th. Madonna is certainly an iconic music figure, and is renowned for her high-energy high-quality live performances, and she finally has the Super Bowl stage for the first time in her long career.

No News on 2013 Super Bowl Halftime Performers

Traditionally the formal announcement for who is playing in a given Super Bowl halftime performance doesn’t come out until a few months before the actual event. In no small part because you are dealing with rock stars who often can’t project out concert tours and other responsibilities very far, and in part because the recent geriatric selections of The Rolling Stones and The Who increases the risk of natural death of the performers between the time of the announcement and the Super Bowl. Rumors are swirling that Janet Jackson might perform again, the first time since her infamous wardrobe malfunction at Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004, but I find that hard to believe. In recent years the Super Bowl halftime selection committee have opted towards more iconic hard rock performers, and given Janet Jackson’s checkered past as a Super Bowl halftime performer and cultural irrelevancy I doubt they’d select her again. Please comment on who you want to perform at the 2013 Super Bowl!

2013 Super Bowl Awarded to New Orleans

New Orleans was awarded the 2013 Super Bowl by a vote of the NFL owners, making it the tenth time overall New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl but the first time since Hurricane Katrina laid waste to this iconic American city. The 2013 Super Bowl, otherwise known by its roman numerals as Super Bowl XLVII, will happen on February 3rd, 2012. For New Orleans, the vote of confidence the NFL is giving it that it can host an event of this magnitude will be a signal to other events and conferences that New Orleans is “back in business” and capable of hosting huge events once more. Congratulations New Orleans, America roots for you!
